Cardiff community recognised in New Year’s Honours 2024

Lynn Pamment CBE (BScEcon 1989), Dr Muhayman Jamil MBE (PgDip 2002), Professor Jane Monckton-Smith OBE (PhD 2007)

Members of the Cardiff University alumni community have been recognised for their outstanding achievements in the King’s New Year’s Honours List for 2024.

Lynn Pamment (BScEcon 1989), Chair of the Financial Reporting Advisory Board was awarded a CBE for Public Service.

Dr Kathryn Chamberlain (BScTech 1985, PhD 1988), former Chief Executive for the Independent Monitoring Authority for the Citizens Rights' Agreements was awarded an OBE for Public Service.

Professor Jane Monckton-Smith (PhD 2007), Professor of Public Protection at the University of Gloucestershire was awarded an OBE for services to Criminal Justice.

Wing Commander Dr Matthew Lewis (MD 2005), RAF, Consultant advisor in aviation medicine was awarded an OBE.

The Reverend Canon Terence Graham DL (MTh 2019), Rector at St Bartholomew's Church in Belfast was awarded an MBE for services to the Reserve Forces and to the community.

Dr Simon Hancock (PhD 2015), a Councillor for Pembrokeshire County Council was awarded an MBE for services to the community.

Dr Muhayman Jamil (PgDip 2002) founded the charity Wheels and Wheelchairs, which brings together wheelchair users with skaters to make skating accessible to all. He was awarded an MBE for services to People with Disabilities.

Dr Peter Jones (BSc 1985), Lead Specialist Adviser for Peatlands, Natural Resources Wales was awarded an MBE for services to Welsh Peatlands and to the community in Wales.

Howard Provis (PgDip 2000), who has donated blood over a thousand times, was awarded an MBE for services to the Welsh Blood Transfusion Service and to the community. He is one of the Welsh Blood Service’s and the UK’s largest donors.

Leona O'Neil (PgDip 2010) founded The Boom Foundation, an organisation established to support people in Northern Ireland with sarcoma, after losing her fiancé to the disease. She was awarded an MBE for services to Charitable Fundraising for People with Sarcoma.

Major John Baileff (BSc 2010) of the Royal Regiment of Artillery was awarded an MBE.

Dr Michael Bartlett (PgCert 2016) is a Medical Educator for Hywel Dda Health Board and the RNLI and was awarded a BEM for services to Medical Education.

Beverley Greenwood Alumna (BSc 1992) was awarded a BEM for services to the community in Glenfield, Leicestershire during COVID-19.

Dr Marion Lynch (MSc 1996), Global Health Consultant and Founder and Director of the Fiona Foundation for Kids, was awarded a BEM for services to Women and Children in Africa.

Wayne Griffiths(LLB 1978), who is Chair of Macmillan's Wales Volunteer Forum and a fundraiser for Velindre Cancer Centre, was awarded a BEM for services to Fundraising for Cancer Care and Cancer Research.

Dr Catherine Hubbert (MSc 2003), founder of the Woodlands Hospice Charitable Trust and Macmillan General Practitioner was awarded a BEM for services to Palliative Care.

Edward Ough (BA 1991), former Superintendent of South Wales Police was awarded The King’s Police Medal.
