The School of Music’s alumni composition competition has opened for entries.

We are delighted to invite alumni and graduates of the School of Music to submit scores to the competition. This year’s winning entry will be performed by Cardiff University Chamber Orchestra in Spring 2021, with rehearsals due to begin in late November 2020.

The competition was launched in 2018, with entries from alumni of the School of Music spanning over 30 years.

Last year’s winning composition was written by PhD student Lucy McPhee and was inspired by the Welsh folklore tale of Blodeuwedd.

All alumni of the School of Music are invited to enter. Works that have been performed previously, along with previously unperformed works, are welcome.

Cardiff University School of Music has a distinguished roster of composer alumni from past and present, including Grace Williams, Alun Hoddinott, Hilary Tann and Philip Cashian, as well as a strong community of current and recent undergraduate and postgraduate composers. To strengthen these connections and support the musical growth of our alumni, we are delighted to announce the third annual competition.
