A Cardiff University project to engage Cardiff’s creative community has won the inaugural Civic Award at the 2019 Cardiff Life Awards.

Creative Cardiff is a city network which connects people working in any creative organisation, business or job to make Cardiff the most creative place it can be.

Founder of Creative Cardiff Professor Justin Lewis said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team, of Sara, Kayleigh and Beca, deservedly recognised for their passion and commitment in supporting Cardiff’s creative community.

“When Professor Ian Hargreaves and I started this work in 2014 we always hoped that there would be this level of growth, engagement and impact in the city.”

Director of Creative Cardiff, Sara Pepper, said: “We have always been very serious in our ambitions to recognise Cardiff as a capital of creativity. This Civic contribution award for Creative Cardiff is a real boost for our work, with and for the creative community.”

Started in 2015, the network now has 2,450 members in the Cardiff City region and is responsible for initiatives including the Coworking Collective, Ymlaen!, Virtual Reality South Wales as well as research which mapped the creative economy of Cardiff for the first time.

The Cardiff Life Awards judging panel, which included Cardiff Council Leader Huw Thomas, said: “Remarkable! Creative Cardiff connects people, running a variety of events and putting creativity at the heart of civic life. An impressive 2018 with huge impact."
