Opportunities for Grangetown residents

20 March 2019

Girls getting careers advice

Residents in Cardiff’s Grangetown district are being invited to find out about courses and careers offered by Cardiff University.

The University is hosting its annual Careers and Role Model Week as part of its thriving Community Gateway project.

Activities will take place at Grangetown Hub at Havelock Place, Grangetown, until Friday 22 March 2019.

The programme for each day:

  • Monday 18 March: Career opportunities at Cardiff University (15:00-18:00)
  • Wednesday 20 March: Support and information to apply for our courses (15:00-18:00)
  • Friday 22 March: Information about construction industry jobs, plus information from academic staff about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects and opportunities (15:00-18:00)

Visitors are also invited to sign up for the Cardiff University open day on 27 March. Free transport will be provided from Grangetown.

Community Gateway, which has already launched more than 50 community-University projects, works hand in hand with residents and local organisations to help make Grangetown an even better place to live and work.

The project is part of the University’s civic mission, which seeks to support improvements in our communities in areas such as education, health and wellbeing.

The Grangetown community is seeking to build a new £1.6m community hub in Grange Gardens through partners Grange Pavilion Project and Grangetown Community Action with the support of Cardiff University.

Some 80% of the target has been reached, including £1m from The Big Lottery Fund Wales, but organisers are appealing for support to realise their dream.
