Five new lecture posts in Pharmacy, Medicine and Healthcare Sciences subjects.

Cardiff University is set to receive funding from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol for yet more Welsh-medium lecturers.

The Coleg, (College) which works to ensure more study opportunities for Welsh medium students, will invest in teaching positions for Pharmacy, Medicine and Healthcare Sciences.

Wyn Davies from Neath, who is also a leading member of Only Men Aloud, will be one of those teaching Pharmacy through the medium of Welsh at the University, and is looking forward to returning to the university where he himself studied:

‘‘Welsh medium provision and service within Pharmacy has been close to my heart since I graduated. Returning to Cardiff University to lecture under the auspices of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol will provide me with an opportunity to ensure that Welsh medium provision is an integral part of the health system.’’

Laura Doyle and Elen Jones will also be responsible for expanding the brand new provision and for recruiting more students to study Pharmacy through the medium of Welsh at Cardiff.

Dr Awen Iorwerth will be responsible for expanding and strengthening the provision which is already available within Medicine at Cardiff University and Anwen Davies will offer support to Healthcare Science students with their studies.

Dr Ioan Matthews, Chief Executive of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol said:

‘‘We were glad to be able to support these appointments and look forward to seeing more students studying subjects through Welsh as a result of the Coleg’s investment. I would like to wish them all well as they create resources and recruit perspective students over the years to come.’’
