Education Fellowship Programmes

Our AdvanceHE-accredited Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programmes help staff develop their learning and teaching and gain recognition for their professional practice.

The Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programmes equip staff with the skills that they need to become effective educators and are designed to be engaging, light-touch and practice-focussed.

The programmes have been co-developed by a wide range of staff and students to meet the needs of participants and the University.

The Fellowships programmes replaced the previous Academic Practice and Learning to Teach programmes in September 2021. The Fellowships programmes are open to all staff and postgraduate students who are involved in teaching and/or learning support.

These include;

  • a new lecturer designing your first modules or teaching sessions
  • a graduate tutor or demonstrator
  • a member of professional services teaching staff or students
  • an information professional or technician providing workshops or lab support
  • or an experienced leader co-ordinating education programmes, or leading aspects of teaching and learning

Structure

They are structured around thematic blended learning workshops and support participants to create an online portfolio which can lead to the internationally recognised awards of Associate Fellow (AFHEA), Fellow (FHEA) or Senior Fellow (SFHEA).

Programmes

There are two fully-facilitated programmes and a bespoke route to recognition aimed at those already progressing with the development of their portfolio:

Cardiff University Education Associate Fellow Programme

The Cardiff University Education Associate Fellow Programme is aimed at postgraduate research students getting started with teaching and professional services staff with developing learning support responsibilities and will convey AFHEA status.

Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programme

The Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programme is a short programme of seven workshops aimed at new academic and professional services staff with roles in teaching and will convey Fellowship status to participants. Completing the Education Fellowship Programme and gaining the award of FHEA is a key probation requirement for Grade 6 lecturers.

Cardiff University Education Fellow Development Scheme

The Cardiff University Education Fellow Development Scheme offers a bespoke package of workshops and support to develop a portfolio for Associate Fellow, Fellow and Senior Fellow awards. Portfolios will be submitted to a Cardiff University panel accredited by AdvanceHE.
