International staff loan scheme
We have introduced an interest-free loan scheme to assist with the cost associated with immigration.
We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive community and are committed to supporting our international colleagues.
The University has introduced this initiative to support current, and where appropriate, prospective staff and their immediate dependants with UK immigration-related costs incurred during their employment at the University or in taking up employment with us. This initiative is in the form of an interest-free loan and is available to staff in all job families at Cardiff University. For new staff, the University’s method of payment is by bank transfer once employment has commenced. However, if a loan is needed at the point the immigration fees are paid, where approved, this can be arranged.
Applying
Please complete and send the International Staff Loan Application form to your Local HR Manager. We are only able to accept applications where this has been used.
International staff loans form for prospective staff
This form is to be used when a prospective employee has signed a contract of employment with Cardiff University and intends to apply for an international staff visa loan.

In support of the application, you will need to provide a full breakdown of the actual or anticipated costs and details on who they relate to.
You may apply for a loan for all or part of the fees you have paid, or are due to pay, for Immigration-related fees.
- If you have already paid the fees, you must attach supporting documentation (receipts/invoices).
- If you are seeking a loan in advance of paying, you must only request the amount you actually need for the payments and you must submit receipts/invoices to HR as soon as these become available.
You will be notified by email as to the outcome of your application, prior to the loan being transferred into your bank account.
