We are building state-of-the-art facilities to help innovation thrive.
The Innovation Campus embodies Cardiff Innovation System – a powerful vision for economic growth in Wales. The Campus extends our footprint in the heart of Cardiff, transforming a disused railway yard into a space for collaboration.
Cardiff Innovation Campus (CIC) is the door to innovation at Cardiff University and will provide cutting-edge facilities that will help researchers and students work with partners to build enterprises that create products, spin-outs, start-ups and social enterprises.
The Hadyn Ellis Building was the first development to be completed. It brings together experts in conditions such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease and stem cell cancer research for the first time. It was followed by the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre, which is one of Europe's flagship facilities for brain research imaging.
The state-of-the-art Campus, at Maindy Park, will feature two new buildings driving innovation. Innovation Central will house SPARK, the world’s first social science research park, and the Innovation Centre – a creative space for start-ups, spin-outs and partnerships. The Translational Research Facility will be home to two world-leading scientific research establishments - the Institute for Compound Semiconductors and Cardiff Catalysis Institute.
Cardiff University has teamed up with Bouygues UK Limited, a leading construction company with a track record in urban regeneration, to develop the new buildings.
Bouygues UK has worked on similar, impressive projects, including building significant higher education developments across Wales, the UK and globally. The build will help create jobs in construction management, technical and trades roles, including apprenticeships for many local people.
