Enabling technologies

We drive digital transformation through a range of technologies.

AI and data science

Our artificial intelligence researchers have expertise in Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval, and are interested in reasoning with imperfect information. We have a dedicated senior data scientist who can assist your projects.

We are also home to the STFC Hartree Centre Cardiff Hub, a £1.5M initiative to support SMEs in the Cardiff Capital Region and Western Gateway in implementing AI in their businesses.

The Cardiff regional Hub of the Hartree National Centre for Digital Innovation empowers SMEs with AI and data analytics in the Cardiff Capital Region and Western Gateway.

Cybersecurity

As people spend more of their lives in digital spaces, cybersecurity systems are increasingly important to protect individuals, organisations, and governments. Proactive measures can prevent cyber-criminals from accessing sensitive information, personal data, accounts, and devices.

Our researchers support both human and technical cyber security research by using data science, AI, and statistical methods. They collaborate with industry partners, including Admiral Insurance, Airbus, BAE Systems, BT, HSBC, IBM, Thales, and Toshiba, to address the grand challenges of automated cyber and security operations, secure manufacturing, and governing online harms.

Human-centred computing

Our Human-Centred Computing research unit examines the socio-technical impacts of emerging computing systems on individuals, communities, and societies, and identifies ways that such innovations can be ethically designed to better support humans and our planet

Human-centred computing

Our research specialises in small and large scale systems, data analytics at scale, multi-criteria optimisation, human/social computation, cyber threat modelling and predictive analytics.

Organisational research

Our researchers use management science tools and techniques to improve decision-making in supply chains and operations management. We focus on using forecasting for social good.

We can help you with institutional change, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Our emphasis on responsible innovation has prompted extensive research on sustainable supply chains, green logistics, and ensuring community benefits from public and private procurement.
