Field courses

The centre provides facilities for field courses from overseas and within the Asia-Pacific region, including Malaysia.

Primate behaviour and ecology field course 

This two week course is organised by the centre and usually runs between 15 July and 15 August each year. Tuition will focus on:

  • methods in behavioural observations
  • primate census methods
  • radio-telemetry of diurnal and nocturnal primates
  • habitat and phenology sampling
  • primate endo-parasites analysis
  • primate acoustics. 

Lectures will also be given that introduce concepts in primate behaviour and ecology, current topics in primate research, and a range of research methods. 

You may be able to arrange independent study or dissertation credit from your university. The course will not run with less than 8 students, with a maximum of 15 places. 

The cost is £1,200 (GBP) per student, which does not include your return ticket to and from Malaysia.

Rainforest biodiversity assessment field course

This course is run by Cardiff University for its second year biology, ecology and zoology undergraduate students. It is a two week course held during the first half of July. Find out more about their biosciences courses.
