Literature Wales

A national organisation, its aim is to support and develop Wales’ oldest artform, through working collaboratively and in a wide range of communities, to make literature relevant for all.

Literature Wales’ projects include:

• Writers on Tour funding scheme for local organisers
• initiatives to engage children and young people – Bardd Plant Cymru and Young People’s Laureate
• support for writers including bursaries, mentoring and course at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre
• transformative outreach schemes such as the South Wales Literature Development Initiative.

Activities

South Wales Literature Project

The South Wales Literature Development Initiative (SWLDI) has been running successfully since 2007 and currently works in Torfaen, Caerphilly, Neath Port Talbot, Vale of Glamorgan and Newport. 

Aiming to offer transformative writing activities to those traditionally disengaged from mainstream arts and culture, this initiative responds to the specific needs of the community and overcomes barriers to participation, by working with Local Authorities and other local agencies. Young Peoples Laureate & Bardd Plant Cymru projects

Upcoming opportunities

Roald Dahl Centenary Celebrations and workshops 2016

Literature Wales is developing a series of workshops suitable for all ages to celebrate Roald Dahl and his connection to Wales. Workshops could explore working with young children to create new Revolting Rhymes, capturing memories and stories similar to Boy and Going Solo, or exploring more Tales of the Unexpected.

Slam Cymru

• Marketing and newsletters via Literature Wales platforms.
• Co-ordination of author visits to schools and community groups to support creative writing activities addressing literacy issues, well-being and future employability and prosperity.

• Use of the Lit Lounge, Cardiff Bay.
