Arctec Space Spider 3D Scanner

The Artec Space Spider is a high resolution 3D scanner that uses blue light technology, with the final 3D model exported to many different file formats e.g. STL, OBJ, PLY, WRL, AOP, ASCII, Disney PTX, E57, XYZRDB, CSV, DXF, XML or as RAW point cloud data. These can then be imported to many type of parametric modelling software for processing and editing.

The Artec Spider is designed to capture small objects or intricate details of large industrial objects in high resolution. The Artec Spider can be used in a wide range of industries such as, quality control, the automotive industry, medicine, heritage preservation, computer graphics, forensics, education, reverse engineering and architecture.

The handheld scanner is compatible with both lightweight laptops and tablets, and the battery pack allows for up to 6 hours of scanning time, making it extremely portable.

Costs: £151.69 per hour.

Training on how to use the scanner will be provided by a member of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility (MSKBRF) team. Alternatively Artec offer free demonstrations online.

The scanner emits powerful flashing and therefore should be used with caution in participants with epilepsy or sensory disorders.

The scanner should not be moved out of the department unless prior arrangement has been made with a member of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility (MSKBRF) team. Scanning should be done in the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility (MSKBRF) department where possible. Anyone using the scanner should sign a book stating the date and time that the scanner was used.
