I am currently attending my final year of a Professional Doctorate in Advanced Healthcare Practice. My research project is an Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis of the experiences of staff when responding to children and young people who exhibit harmful sexual behaviours at school.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse, Adult (SRN) in 1981.  Following an 18-year break in my nursing career, I decided to undertake a Return to Practice course in 2006/2007 and subsequently gained a Master of Science in Advanced Practice; Safeguarding Children (Cardiff University) in 2009. Having discovered a love of both learning and a passion for safeguarding, I embarked upon my Professional Doctorate in 2012.

In my day job, I am National Advisor for Safeguarding children and adults at the Care Quality Commission and am responsible for advising inspection teams and ancillary staff on all aspects of safeguarding. Previous experience includes practising across health, social care, educational and local authority environments where I worked closely with adult and child safeguarding boards and contributed to the completion of a Serious Case Review report into child abuse and neglect.
