Our Fairtrade Achievements
What happens when you make more conscious choices on campus
Food and drink should do more than just fuel our day, it should empower the people who produced it. Which is why we are a Fairtrade university; meaning that 100% of these campus essentials are sourced through Fairtrade-certified supply chains:
- Tea & Coffee: Every single cup served is ethical.
- Sugar: 100% of our white and brown sugar sticks.
- Bananas: Every case in our kitchens is Fairtrade.
- Hot Chocolate: Purely Fairtrade cocoa.
Over the last year, we’re honoured to see just how much effort Cardiff students are making to make more ethical choices on campus.
Our Achievements
Every time you choose a snack or drink on campus, you are contributing to a massive movement. Look at what we have achieved together in 2025:
- Almost 200,000 cups of Fairtrade coffee served
- Over 65,000 cups of Clipper tea enjoyed
- Nearly 9,000 cups of Fairtrade hot chocolate drank
- More than 100,000 sticks of Fairtrade sugar used
- 939 cases of Fairtrade bananas eaten
But that’s not all. The growth in ethical treats and drinks compared to 2024 has been staggering. Students chose to enjoy just under 8,000 Fairtrade chocolate bars in 2025 - including Divine and Tony’s Chocolonely - which is almost double the previous year.
You have also been loving our Karma and LemonAid drinks, with a 67% increase last year in choosing drinks that give back to farming communities - good for you!
The number of students choosing alternative milk is also on the rise, increasing by 32.17% from 2024 to 2025. Oat milk still comes out on top (representing over 76% of alternative milk drunk in both years) but our students' love for almond milk saw the biggest growth.
Speaking of plant-based, the number of meat-focused meals dropped, showing a conscious shift to incorporating more vegan and vegetarian options into your weekly diet – a great way to reduce your carbon footprint while staying nutritious.
