This conference will showcase the excellent work being carried out in the School of Engineering, providing informal networking opportunities for all research active staff beyond usual working groups.  Researchers at every career stage from PDRA to Professor are invited to attend and submit an abstract for oral or poster presentation (Engineering Research Conference Guidance and Engineering Research Conference Template). The event is intentionally inclusive of all levels promoting a strong sense of research community and an opportunity for cross fertilisation of ideas, skill sets and collaboration.

The conference is organised around the following five themes, providing a platform for all to take part (Committee members).

  • AI and Deep Learning
This theme focuses on the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques in engineering.  Examples include the use of AI techniques for intelligent management of energy systems and image processing to aid radiotherapy planning.
  • Digital Twins
A digital twin is a virtual representation of an object or system that is updated with real time information and used to guide decision making.  Applications include smart manufacturing, condition monitoring and resource management.
  • Net Zero
This theme will bring together research across the whole range of engineering disciplines that contribute towards the reduction of atmospheric CO2.
  • Bio-based Engineering
This theme brings together all the engineering topics that interface with medicine or biology with the common aim of improving quality of life of people. Examples include microwave sensing of biochemical signals, self-healing concrete using bacteria and development of new devices for drug delivery.
  • Future Engineering
State of the art technologies for the next generation of wireless communication systems, future power systems engineering and other exciting work not covered by above topics.

The conference will take place in the Centre of Student Life. Exhibitions and poster presentations will be held across two floors in the foyer area, while the oral sessions will take place in the Sir Stanley Thomas OBE Lecture Theatre.  In addition, meeting rooms can be booked for group discussion throughout the duration of the conference.

This conference will provide you with a platform to see, hear and discuss the latest engineering and research developments in the School of Engineering.

We look forward to seeing you in June!
