Public engagement

A child looks through a microscope

We aim to engage with the public about the real-world impact of our research, and provide opportunities for two-way communication.

Engaging with the public is a key part of our work. For our research to be effective it's essential that it relates to the experience and needs of real people.

This is why we aim to promote dialogue with the public on genetics and neuroscience in psychiatry. We work to communicate the importance of research in this area, and its potential to make life better for people with mental health problems.

We also help to tackle the unfair stigma surrounding mental ill health by promoting positive messages and improving understanding of the scientific basis of mental health problems.

We engage with the public in a range of ways, including:

  • Social media and podcasting
  • Public lectures
  • Attendance at festivals and events
  • Collaboration with artists
  • Schools events and projects.

Getting involved

We regularly run events that are open to the public, from formal lectures to film screenings. Upcoming events are listed on this site and promoted via our Twitter feed, @CNGGCardiff

If you are interested in getting involved with our public engagement work, or have any suggestions on how we can engage with new audiences, please contact us.

We particularly welcome requests from schools and colleges.

Reaching a wider audience

We collaborate with our partners at the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) and the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute (NMHRI) to reach as wide a range of audiences as possible.

By combining our efforts we are able to reach diverse groups from school children and patients to medical professionals and fellow researchers.

Find out more at the NCMH and NMHRI websites.
