Postgraduate Zooarchaeology Forum  -  14 November 2009

A postgraduate/early career zooarchaeology networking event will be hosted by Cardiff Osteoarchaeology Research Group on the weekend of 14th -15th November. This will provide a forum for postgraduates and early career zooarchaeology researchers to present their research, regardless of what stage it is at, in an informal setting to their peers. The deadline for oral presentations has now passed. Poster presentation abstracts will be accepted until 19th October and the deadline for registration is 1st November.

Cardiff University School of History and Archaeology is launching a new seminar programme, to take place over a period of  2-3 years, designed to re-examine fundamental assumptions about the post-1945 era.

Ancient Cremations Workshop


A two-day Ancient Cremations workshop will be hosted by the Cardiff Osteoarchaeology Research Group Laboratory, and will encourage inter-school and cross-institutional communications by bringing together researchers, professionals, students and the public with an interest in ancient cremation and cremation ritual practices of the past.

Emperor and Author: The Writings of Julian the Apostate.  -  16 July 2009

Over three days leading scholars in the field delivered papers on the writings of Julian. Each scholar focused on a particular text (or set of texts, e.g. Julian’s letters). The conference also embraced a chronological and thematic approach to Julian’s writings.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2009 Archaeology Festival. The Festival is organised by Current Archaeology, the UK's best-selling archaeology magazine, and 50 speakers will present their latest research and new discoveries to audiences in venues in the university as well as the National Museum Cardiff over the weekend of 7-8 February. Keynote lectures will be given by Bethany Hughes, Professor Brian Fagan and Professor Steven Mithen. Excursions to archaeological sites near Cardiff have been arranged for Friday 6 February.
