14th -15th November, School of History and Archaeology, Cardiff University

A postgraduate/early career zooarchaeology networking event will be hosted by Cardiff Osteoarchaeology Research Group on the 14th November. This will provide a forum for postgraduates and early career zooarchaeology researchers to present their research, regardless of what stage it is at, in an informal setting to their peers. The conference may take place over either one or two days depending on demand.

The conference will be held in November to maximise the number of new postgraduate students who could benefit from attending the event and also still involve completed Masters students who may want to present their dissertation research. It aims to act as a springboard from which people will be encouraged to present at larger academic conferences.

The deadline for abstract submission for oral presentations has now passed but poster abstracts will be accepted until 19th October and registration forms will be accepted until 1st November. If you would like to attend, please complete the downloadable registration form on the right of this page. Oral and poster presentations are restricted to zooarchaeology students and early career researchers, although attendance by the wider academic and professional community is encouraged to maximise networking opportunities and knowledge transfer.

The initiative is supported by the AHRC and as such there will be prizes for the best posters and oral presentations. In addition ten small travel/subsistence grants of £60 will be available (downloadable application form at top right of this page). Poster printing costs are covered, provided that posters are sent electronically to the organisers no less than a week before the event.

Every effort has been made to keep costs to a minimum in it is hoped that registration for the event will be free. However a small contribution may be required to cover the cost of refreshments. Evening social activities will be organised for the Saturday night. Accommodation will, where possible be arranged with Cardiff postgraduate students or at budget hostels/hotels in the city. Please feel free to display/circulate the downloadable PZAF poster (to the top right of this page).
