Summary
Cardiff Pharmaceuticals is a state of the art Aseptic and Non-Sterile Production facility located within the Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Cardiff University. Our unique unit is purpose-built for the provision of innovative teaching and training in current Good Manufacturing Practice for the pharmaceutical, microbiology and biotechnology industry. Furthermore, the facility is well appointed to enable small scale development pharmaceutics, process optimisation and product development prior to commercial scale-up.

The facility is housed in Cardiff University’s Redwood Building, benefiting from a central location within Cardiff City Centre.
The unit is a fully commissioned and maintained production suite, built for the purpose of teaching, training and the development of processes and products. The unit has 106m2 of EU GMP Class B/ISO 14644-1Class 5 floor space containing four double glove, rigid positive pressure Class A Isolators, an horizontal Laminar Air Flow Cabinet and a negative pressure 4 glove hazardous products isolator. for teaching non-sterile production techniques including tablet and capsule development and manufacture.
The unit has an adjoining preparation room, a microbiology facility with Class II safety cabinet and non-pharmaceutical autoclaves. CCTV has been installed into all of the central teaching rooms within the aseptic suite, including coverage of the isolators and the non sterile production room.

Cardiff Pharmaceuticals offers a bespoke, personal approach with the flexibility to ensure your training needs are met. We are able to draw on the knowledge, experience and skills of staff within the School, our partners in industry, to support you in the delivery of cGMP courses. Various aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing theory and practice can be delivered imaginatively in a real world environment. Access to additional lecture halls, breakout rooms, refectory and overnight accommodation can also be built into your training package as required. Your courses can be individually designed to fit the training requirements of your organisation or company to comply with the licensing and audit requirements of the MHRA.

Process and Product Development
Our facilities are designed for the consideration, development or improvement of manufacturing processes and products on a small scale before scale up in your production facility. We provide technical support for your development teams to ensure efficient use of your time within the facility and to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Current Clients
Cardiff Pharmaceuticals currently works in collaboration with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to provide the technical teaching and training requirements for their 3 licensed pharmaceutical manufacturing units including a Manufacturer Investigational Medicinal Products (MIAIMP) License for clinical trials and a Manufacturer’s/Importer’s License (MIA) and a Wholesale Dealer (GSL) Licence (WDL ) amongst others.
