The School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University has become the latest educational centre to receive their own OPTOMAP device from Optos plc (Scotland).

The Optos technology now available with this instrument in Cardiff will facilitate the training of both undergraduate and postgraduate optometrists in the acquisition and assessment of ultra wide-field retinal images. Patients from the University Eye Clinic will also be able to access this specialist service.

Pictured above are Professor Rachel North and other lecturing staff receiving instruction from Dr William L Jones (Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.) and Mark Braddon (Optos plc; right). Professor North said “We are thrilled to have been donated this cutting edge instrument. It will give all our students the experience of just how important technology can be to comprehensive patient care.

As part of his visit to the UK, Dr Jones also conducted lectures at Aston University and Glasgow Caledonian University, both of which have the Optos equipment.  Optos is keen to support the education and training of optometrists by making its unique ultra widefield technology available.
