Because We Can
1 April 2011
UCAN Productions and our hosts, The School of Optometry and Vision Sciences held a very special event on Friday 1 April 2011. The ‘Because We Can / Ni’n Gallu’ event was inspired by the achievements of our UCAN Members and was a celebration of their talents.

The event was inspired by long time member 16 year old Mared Jarman, who despite a severe visual impairment achieved an A star for her Art GCSE.
Professor Tim Wess, Head of School and University Pro Vice Chancellor said “Mared is both a fantastic singer and artist, we are delighted to offer her the opportunity to exhibit her work and to support UCAN in hosting this event.”
UCAN Members also showcased their talents at the event with singing, a clarinet solo and piece of body percussion where some of the Students at The School of Optometry joined in! The evening was led by UCAN Productions 18 year old Junior Chairman Lloyd Coleman. Lloyd, who is visually impaired and has hearing loss, is currently studying music composition at the London Royal Academy of Music, where amongst other things, he is composing a piece of music entitled ‘Breaking The Wall’ which is a celebration piece for the Cultural Olympiad Programme in 2012.
