Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning Bursary Scheme 2011/12

The Centre for Lifelong Learning is making available a limited number of bursaries from September 2011.  These will provide financial support for students from lower income backgrounds, and in particular those who are not eligible for other schemes such as the Student Fee Waiver Scheme, who are enrolled on particular programmes (see below).

Who will be eligible for the bursaries?

The Bursaries are available to students who meet all of the following criteria:

  • They are normally resident in the UK
  • They are liable personally for paying course fees (e.g. those eligible for, or claiming, the HEFCW Student Fee Waiver are therefore not eligible).
  • They are in receipt of one of the following means-tested benefits :
    • Income Support
    • Housing Benefit
    • Job Seekers Allowance
    • Council Tax Benefit
    • Working Tax Credits

    (Evidence supplied to support receipt of the above benefits will need to be dated within 6 weeks prior to the start of the course.)

AND

They are enrolled on one or more of the following courses within the “Exploring the Past” Pathway:

  • Exploring the Past: History
  • Exploring Religion: Past and Present
  • Exploring the past: Archaeology
  • Bringing the Past to Life? History, Historians and Television
  • Forging Nations: Britain, France and the 100 Years of War
  • Gender in Archaeology
  • Myths and Meaning
  • Hidden Histories: Uncovering Identities in Tudor and Stuart England
  • The Ancient World and Us
  • The Archaeology of Death and Burial

OR

They are enrolled on a relevant Widening Access/Progression Course:

  • Crossing the Threshold
  • Introduction to Public Service Interpreting
  • Advanced English for Public Service Interpreting
  • Communication Skills for Second Language English Speakers
  • Public Service Interpreting – Health
  • Public Service Interpreting – Law

How much will the bursaries be worth?

The value of the bursaries will be £100 per 10 credits of study (Public Services Interpreting Courses will be between £80 and £100 per 10 credits), up to 60 credits in an academic year.

How do I apply?

Applications should be made by filling out the Centre’s Bursary application form (download).

You should be notified of the outcome of the application within 1 week of submission.  Payment will be in the form of a cheque.
