Reading Rancière is co-edited by Dr Paul Bowman

Recently published Reading Rancière: Critical Dissensus is the first sustained critical exploration of Jacques Ranciere's work to be written in English.

It is edited by Dr Paul Bowman, Director of the School’s Race, Representation and Cultural Politics research group, and Bath Spa University lecturer Dr Richard Stamp.

Reading Rancière gathers together an international group of key thinkers from Cultural Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Political Theory and Literature in an engagement with the core aspects of Rancière’s work.

The translation of Jacques Ranciere's works into English over the last decade has generated a lot of excitement and placed him in the forefront of attention in several distinct but interconnected international fields, such as philosophy, politics, ‘Theory’, aesthetics, and film.

As a result, conferences, articles and journal issues focusing on the usefulness of Rancière’s work have begun to proliferate both at the heart of and on the borders of these fields.

With this in mind, Dr Bowman described the book as “One of the first major sustained critical, multi-perspective interventions into the body of work of Rancière and the Rancièrean scholarship that flows from it.

“Such work is increasingly influential within a whole series of fields, right across the disciplinary and interdisciplinary arts, humanities and social sciences of the universities in the UK, USA, Australia and Europe, in particular, in philosophy, politics, art, aesthetics and film."

Reading Rancière: Critical Dissensus is published by Continuum Publishing Corporation and can be purchased online or downloaded as a Kindle eBook.
