Entry Requirements

Candidates applying for the Diploma in Journalism Studies should normally hold a degree, of at least lower second class honours standard, awarded by a recognised university (or its equivalent).

However, this requirement may be waived for candidates over 25 years of age who have a minimum of 7 years professional experience within the industry. Overseas applicants will be required to have an IELTS score of 7.5.

You should be able to demonstrate your commitment to a career in the news media and be street-wise, inquisitive and self-reliant. An ability to express yourself clearly in writing and orally is vital.

You should also have a sound knowledge of current affairs and the social ability to win trust and confidence, along with the energy, persistence and dedication never to take “no” for an answer. You will also need sound judgement and the ability to stay calm in a crisis.
