"Singapore, 2005 - Olympics president Jacques Rogge is about to announce the location of the 2012 Games. He hesitates, then pronounces one word - London."
You all know what happened next, but did you know Cardiff University has a hand in that historic decision? The London bid pledged to use the 'ecological footprint' approach developed for sports events such as the FA Cup by a team of academics at the University's former ESRC Centre for Business Relationships Accountability, Sustainability and Society (BRASS). Dr Andrea Collins (now at the School of Planning and Geography) then joined the carbon footprint planning team for last year's Games - now recognised as the most sustainable ever.
The impact of this research features in January's issue of Cardiff University News. This is one of a number of Impact Case Studies currently being produced by academics at School of Planning and Geography for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in 2013.
