Nora Schuurman is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu. She was originally trained as a geographer, and in March 2012 defended her PhD thesis in Environmental Policy, on interpreting horses and their welfare. Her research interests include human-animal relationships, conceptions and knowledge about animal welfare, and the role of the horse in Western society. She is currently working for the project “Companion Animals and the Affective Turn: Reconstructing the Human-Horse Relationship in Modern Culture (CONIMAL)”, funded by the Academy of Finland.
