Fifty years ago the iconic report ‘Traffic in Towns’ set out how to transform towns to cope with impending mass motorisation.   But things haven’t quite turned out as planned.   Why not?   Are we better or worse off as a result?  And where does this leave us in planning for the next fifty years?
