We provide basic, intermediate and advanced courses in a range of medical and surgical specialties.

Located in Cardiff Medicentre at the University Hospital of Wales, we run multi-disciplinary training courses across a range of surgical and medical specialties.

We first opened in 1994 and are now part of Cardiff University School of Medicine.

We are a postgraduate institution which oversees the training and development of minimal access therapy in Wales. We are one of the first and best-equipped laparoscopic training centres in the UK, and are now among the busiest multi-disciplinary training centres in the country.

What we provide

We are currently at the forefront of providing a wide range of postgraduate education and training for core trainees, specialty trainees and consultants, which includes basic, intermediate and advanced courses in a range of medical and surgical specialties including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Endoscopy, ENT, General Surgery, Intensive Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Urology and Nursing and welcomes delegates from across the UK and worldwide.

We are an all Wales facility, with courses being provided in conjunction with the postgraduate centres and clinical skills laboratories across Wales. Workshops in practical skills are regularly held at satellite centres in Singleton Hospital, Swansea, The North Wales Endoscopy Training Unit, Wrexham, and the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University.

We are the Administrative hub for the Welsh Laparoscopic Colorectal Training Scheme and the Regional core for Joint Advisory Group approved Endoscopy training courses in Wales.
