Student support and wellbeing
From counselling and careers advice to international student support, we offer a comprehensive range of services that you can access during your time here, or after you graduate.

Cardiff University Students’ Union
Rated second in the UK (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2021), our Students’ Union is home to more than 200 student societies and 60 sports clubs, live entertainment, as well as welfare, careers and advice services.
It’s run by students, for students. And it’s the recognised voice of students at the University, campaigning for issues that are important to you.
International and EU students
With more than 7,900 international students from more than 130 countries, we’re a truly global university.
To help you settle into student life, our dedicated international student support team runs welcome events and activities, and a free coach collection service from Heathrow and Cardiff airports. We also provide specialist advice on a wide variety of financial, immigration and welfare issues.
Study, work or volunteer abroad
No matter what course you’re on, you can take the opportunity to go overseas, where you can discover different cultures, learn a new language and make friendships to last a lifetime. We have links with over 300 institutions, and our students visited more than 50 countries last year in Europe and further afield. We offer a range of bursaries, too, to help cover the costs.
Learn a language – for free
Alongside your main degree programme, you can take one of our free Languages for All courses in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. If you’d like to learn Welsh, you can sign up for our free Welsh for All course, which also fits around your academic commitments.
All levels are catered for, from complete beginners to advanced.
Study through the medium of Welsh
We have nearly 100 degree courses which offer some or all of their modules in Welsh. Living in a bilingual capital city means you’ll also have plenty of chances to experience a vibrant Welsh language culture, on campus and off.
Read how we're making a positive contribution to the development of the Welsh language. And if you want to learn Welsh, you can sign up to our Welsh for All course so you can learn the language, for free, alongside your studies.
Please note that the talk and videos are only available in Welsh.
Sport
You’ll find endless opportunities to get involved—both on campus and off—whether it’s taking part in a 7-a-side football league, continuing your elite sporting career or hiking Wales’ 870-mile coastal path.
Our facilities are located across four sites, and include a training village, sports fields, a fitness and conditioning centre, and a studio.
We're working on the necessary adaptations to our sport offering for this year, but we wanted to give you a flavour of what we have available. Please note that, in the current situation, certain activities may not be able to take place.
