About the GW4 Clinical Academic Training Programme for Health Professionals (GW4-CAT HP) DTP

Our Wellcome Trust Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) offers fully-funded PhD studentships in a variety of projects, across our Academic Schools and interdisciplinary Research Institutes. Students will benefit from an excellent local research environment as well as a comprehensive programme of research and professional skills development.

GW4 Clinical Academic Training Programme for Health Professionals (GW4-CAT HP)
Funded by the Wellcome Trust, GW4-CAT HP supports future clinical academic leaders through interdisciplinary PhD training across Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, and Exeter. Fellows combine research with clinical development, benefiting from tailored mentoring, a supportive cross-institutional network, and the flexibility to shape their own research focus. The programme fosters collaboration and innovation at the intersection of clinical practice and research.

Cohort period

The DTP was awarded funding for four intakes of students. The first cohort started in October 2022 and the final cohort will commence in 2026/27. Please see the links below for current project listings, recruitment timelines and funding details.
