NERC Real-Time Digital Water-Based Systems Centre for Doctoral Training

RED-ALERT CDT's will train a new generation of leaders to transform how we manage aquatic environmental health via Real-Time Digital Water-Based Systems.

About the Real-Time Digital Water-Based Systems (RED ALERT) CDT

Our Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) offers fully-funded PhD studentships in a variety of projects, across our Academic Schools and interdisciplinary Research Institutes. Students will benefit from an excellent local research environment as well as a comprehensive programme of research and professional skills development.

Led by the University of Bath, this UKRI-funded programme develops digital water-based systems to tackle environmental degradation and protect human and ecosystem health. Emerging from national surveillance initiatives, RED ALERT partners with government, industry, and NGOs to address real-world challenges. Through its One-Health Living Lab and Co-Creation Hub, the CDT delivers responsive, collaborative training with real impact in environmental and public health.

Cohort period

The CDT was awarded funding for three intakes of students. The first cohort started in October 2024 and the final cohort will commence in 2026/27. Please see the links below for current project listings, recruitment timelines and funding details.
