NERC GW4+ Doctoral Landscape Training Partnership

Train across leading institutions to tackle pressing environmental challenges through the GW4+ Doctoral Landscape Training Partnership, offering funded PhD opportunities in NERC science.

About the GW4+ DLTP

Our Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Doctoral Landscape Training Partnership (DLTP) offers fully-funded PhD studentships in a variety of projects, across our Academic Schools and interdisciplinary Research Institutes. Students will benefit from an excellent local research environment as well as a comprehensive programme of research and professional skills development.

This NERC-funded programme offers 42-month PhD studentships across four research themes: Climate Change and Risk, Earth Science and Hazards, Science for Environmental Solutions, and Evolution and Biodiversity. Delivered by a partnership of leading universities and research organisations, DLTP provides a multidisciplinary training environment with strong career development support. Open primarily to UK students, a limited number of places are available to international applicants.

Cohort period

The DLTP was awarded funding for four intakes of students. The first cohort started in October 2025 and the final cohort will commence in 2029/30. Please see the links below for current project listings, recruitment timelines and funding details.
