MRC GW4 Doctoral Training Partnership

The GW4 BioMed2 MRC DTP offers collaborative, cross-institutional PhD training to develop future biomedical researchers through cutting-edge projects and interdisciplinary teamwork.

About the GW4 BioMed2 DTP

Our Medical Research Council (MRC) Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) offers fully-funded PhD studentships in a variety of projects, across our Academic Schools and interdisciplinary Research Institutes. Students will benefit from an excellent local research environment as well as a comprehensive programme of research and professional skills development.

The GW4 BioMed2 MRC DTP is a world-class, collaborative doctoral training programme. Led by Cardiff University in partnership with the Universities of Bath, Bristol, and Exeter, it brings together the research strengths, expertise, and resources of the GW4 Alliance.

Our students join an exciting, interdisciplinary environment, with many research projects co-supervised across multiple institutions. Training focuses on interdisciplinarity, ‘team science’, and developing the next generation of biomedical leaders.

Cohort period

The DTP was awarded funding for four intakes of students. The first cohort started in October 2022 and the final cohort will commence in 2026/27. Please see the links below for current project listings, recruitment timelines and funding details.
