Overview

Role responsibilities

As the newly appointed E-assessment officer, my aim is to support the planning and coordination of institution-wide activities to increase e-assessment and to enhance the student experience of assessment and feedback, including group work, authentic assessment and peer feedback, through the use of digital tools and specialist e-assessment software. Providing advice, guidance and professional development to academic staff and Schools on approaches to e-assessment design, delivery and management. Supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives to develop e-assessment and feedback practices and share areas of good practice across the University.


Key work/specialisms

  • Work with each school to support and explore their e-assessment requirements.
  • Collaboration within the CD Team on E-assessment and the impact on learning and teaching.
  • Develop asynchronous resources to support academic staff in the selection of software along with the pedagogy behind using the software.
  • Contribute to the Rethinking Assessment and E-portfolio work streams.
  • Member of the Digital Education Technology Board.

Biography

As a secondary teacher by trade for 6 years, I have acquired hands on knowledge of effective learning and teaching, whilst developing the pedagogical understanding of effective teaching. Accompanied by my keen interest in digital technology and the premise to ‘work smarter and not harder’, I naturally would seek out and utilise digital technology in my educational practice.


Taking this newfound interest in the collaboration between education and digital technology, I have most recently worked for a private education company delivering the ‘Digital Learning Design’ course to teachers and learning and development practitioners across South Wales. Supporting their professional development in utilising, creating and delivering high-quality education resources backed with the understanding of effective teaching techniques and pedagogy. All led me to my current role at Cardiff University, where I hope to continue my enthusiasm for digital education technology, and support others in their journey to embed its effective use into their own practice.


Outside of work, I am a keen sportsman and rugby player. A dog lover, I volunteer at Cardiff Dogs Home (Rescue Hotel) as dog walker to get my canine fix!
