Reserach: Exploration of communicationg strategies amongst carers to persons living with Alzheimer's Disease

I am funded by the ESRC, Cardiff University College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Health Care Research Wales. Furthermore, I have an external partner, 'Empowered Conversations', which is an educational service funded by Age UK, aiming to improve communication abilities in carers to persons living with a dementia. I am currently in my first year and have not commenced any empirical studies as of yet. Prospectively, my data will consist of recordings of persons living with a dementia and carers, and qualitative interviews with carers. I intend to explore what carers to persons living with a dementia say that they need in terms of communication support, and interpret their responses through the lense of multiple pragmatic theories.

Research

My reserach is aiming to improving communication alleviation strategies for carers to persons living with a dementia. My data will consist of recordings of communication in a dementia context, and qualitative interviews with carers to persons living with a dementia. I will interpret these data through the lens of multiple theoretical frameworks in order to explore how communication alleviation strategies facilitate communication.
