Experienced educator (27 years) whilst maintaining keen practice interest in neuro-rehabilitation and chronic pain management and research/scholarly interests in older adults and continuing professional development. An active member of the professional body as a practitioner and as an academic, dedicated to improving the student experience and standards of education. Specific skills and expertise in continuing professional development, the management of change and innovative curriculum design and validation. Seventeen years’ experience of external membership of validation panels for a variety of graduate and post graduate programmes.

Co-Founder and owner of TRAMmCPD, a model for guiding Continuing Professional Development to include tool to support recording. Successful web-site (www.trammcpd.co.uk ). All work undertaken for the model and web-site in own time and at own expense. Non profit making. Material freely downloadable.

2018-present day: Professional Head Occupational Therapy, Cardiff University

2013-2017: Senior Lecturer, School of Healthcare Sciences Cardiff University

2012-2013: Secondment - Senior Lecturer, Interprofessional Education Lead, Schools of Healthcare Studies, Nursing and Midwifery Studies and Post Graduate Medical and Dental Education, Cardiff University

Main roles and responsibilities: Project management for IPE across 3 Schools, responsible for scoping and analysing current practice and potential IPE opportunities across undergraduate and postgraduate education and designing an IPE strategy.

2004-2012: Senior Lecturer, Programme Manager (part-time programme) and Deputy Director for Occupational Therapy, Cardiff University: Deputy Director, Programme Manager. Lead for curriculum development for occupational therapy and periodic review. Managed transition of 2 undergraduate programmes into one with two routes and the streamlining of departmental policies procedures for periodic review. Co-ordinated the re-approval and re-accreditation. 2004-2009: Set up a 4 year BSc(Hons) Occupational Therapy (part-time) in Wrexham as Professional Head at the same as managing the partner programme in Cardiff for 5 years as part of All Wales Occupational Therapy Partnership between Cardiff, Glyndwr (formerly NEWI) and Bangor Universities.

1998-2004 Senior Teacher and Programme Director/Professional Lead in Occupational Therapy, University of Wales College of Medicine: Responsible for the management of change from health (under East Glamorgan Health Authority) into the education sector, as part of the University of Wales, College of Medicine. As the professional lead for this largely independent programme, my role included negotiation with the Welsh Assembly Government, provision of all annual monitoring reports and management of 4 relocations.

1989-1998: Practitioner/Teacher then Placement Co-ordinator then Acting Programme Director/Professional Lead: Mid Glamorgan Health Authority/East Glamorgan NHS Trust: All Wales Part-time School of Occupational Therapy.

1983-1989: Occupational Therapy practitioner in a variety of roles and locations:  Neurology and chronic pain management as specialist areas.

Research interests

As co-founder of a model and tools to support CPD (TRAMmCPD, see below), research for my doctorate as part of my DAHP uses IPA to focus on the individual experiences of professional development within the Allied Health Professionals in particular for occupational therapists. Member of the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Network.

Previous research interests included the experiences of older adults in residential care and the impact of transition (Hearle, Rees and Prince).
