Dr Simon Griffey

1958-2014

Our School will miss greatly Dr Simon Griffey, who was the Research Director as well as a tutor on the Doctorate in Educational Psychology programme. Simon died unexpectedly on June 3rd.

Simon started work in the School of Psychology at Cardiff University in 2004, during which time he was seconded from Newport City Council to work as a professional tutor on the MSc in Educational Psychology. Simon joined Cardiff University as an employee in 2006, and as a tutor as well as director of research he was part of the team responsible for developing the Education Psychology doctoral programme in the School, which was the first of its kind in Wales. Simon was also influential in developing and maintaining the post-qualification doctoral programme that runs alongside the main programme.

Simon was a passionate and committed child and educational psychologist as well as an influential and caring teacher. Colleagues, educationalists and students will miss the careful, gentle and inclusive approach Simon brought to all of his professional activities. The thoughts of everyone in our School are with his wife, Helen, and his three children, Hattie, Jack and Phoebe.
