Dr Rachel Coombe

1958-2022

Dr Rachel Coombe sadly, suddenly passed away on 7th January. Rachel, who was the university’s Biological and Scientific Safety Adviser, had studied and worked within the university for over 30 years and was an Officer of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee and Secretary to the Genetic Modification and Biological Agents Committee.

Outside of the university, and in keeping with her love for biology, Rachel was an active member of regional biosafety groups, sharing her extensive knowledge on the subject and was a Member of the Royal Society of Biology.

Another passion of hers was St John's Ambulance, where she was the Secretary for the Cardiff Central Division which also had the added bonus of being able to attend all of the Cardiff Blues RFC home games.

Rachel touched the lives of many people and will be sorely missed by all her colleagues and friends.
