Sara Cater

1961-2012

It was with great sadness that the University learned of the death of Sara Cater overnight on 17 August 2012 after a typically brave fight with cancer. Sara Cater joined Registry as an Administrative Assistant in June 1999. In her first post she had responsibilities across both admissions and student records, but after some internal changes, Sara subsequently became a Registry Officer in the Admissions team. It is no exaggeration to say that Sara was a delight to work with – her knowledge, experience and good counsel was invaluable both to her colleagues in the Admissions team, but also to staff working in academic schools. Sara was highly respected and admired by all for her good humour, dedication and quiet ability to get on with the job in hand – Sara was unflappable and able to cope with the pressures of the job with admirable calmness and she made a significant input to a range of changes and developments in admissions.

Sara was utterly selfless and showed commendable courage and dignity despite more than her fair share of adversity – she never bemoaned her disability and associated ill health. Sara is sorely missed in Registry and she will be remembered with warmth and enduring affection by all who knew her. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.
