Hosting our partners from the University of Gothenburg

25 September 2023

Visitors from the Uni of Gothenburg

We recently welcomed colleagues from the University of Gothenburg to Cardiff, to renew our partnership agreement and show them all of the wonderful sites that Cardiff has to offer!

Our School of Healthcare Sciences have a long-standing partnership with the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, one of the leading higher education institutions in Scandinavia.

The Sahlgrenska Academy delivers programmes in medicine, odontology, and healthcare sciences, and has a strong research focus in areas such as person-centred care, cancer, metabolism, neuroscience, obstetrics, odontology, vaccines, and virology.

This partnership has opened so many doors for our Nursing and Occupational Therapy students, who have benefitted from student exchanges at the University of Gothenburg, where they can draw inspiration from fellow healthcare students and experienced professionals, and hone both their practical and patient care skills, as well as their theoretical knowledge.

Katie Ham, an Adult Nursing Student who undertook an exchange at the University of Gothenburg in Spring 2023, had the following to say:

I had a fantastic time in Gothenburg, and I hope that the visit means that others get the same fantastic opportunities in the future!

Hosting our partners was an ideal opportunity to renew our academic partnership, and discuss expanding student mobility opportunities to include Physiotherapy, Radiography and Postgraduate Research students.

Dr Ricky Hellyar, International Exchange Coordinator for Nursing added:

Our School and the Sahlgrenska Academy have a brilliant working relationship which has had fantastic benefits for our undergraduate students over the years. The renewed agreement, alongside our ambitions for future visits, is extremely exciting for both staff and students.
Dr Richard Hellyar Senior Lecturer: Adult Nursing

During the visit, the opportunity was also taken to show our partners all of the sites that our incredible capital city has to offer, including visits to Cardiff Bay, Ogmore Castle and St Fagan’s Museum, which is currently hosting an exhibition on healthcare in Wales.

In future we hope to strengthen this partnership even further, and explore even more opportunities for student mobility and research collaboration.
