Festival set to celebrate impact of humanities research
4 November 2025
Cardiff University and Swansea University have been chosen as a collaborative flagship hub for Being Human Festival 2025, the UK’s national festival of the humanities.
Being Human is the UK’s national festival of the humanities in celebration of humanities research through public engagement.
Taking place in Cardiff, Port Talbot and Swansea from 6-15 November 2025, our Hub joins the Being Human Festival network, presenting hundreds of free events across the UK and beyond.
Festival events aim to celebrate and demonstrate the ways in which humanities research inspire and enrich our everyday lives, help us to understand ourselves, our relationships with others, and the challenges we face in a changing world.
Dr Kate Moles, Festival Academic Lead for Cardiff University, said “The festival’s theme this year is ‘Between the Lines’ — a space of obscured histories and tacit meanings. Our free public events will explore themes of identity, care, creativity, and resistance, through workshops, exhibitions, and storytelling. From quilt-making and manga to disability rights and queer remembrance, our events invite communities to connect with research in meaningful and imaginative ways”

All our events engage researchers and broader communities in making a difference. In the rapidly shifting and destabilised times in which we live, our humanities research inspires and enrich our everyday lives and help us to understand ourselves and our relationships with others.
Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, takes place 6-15 November 2025. Being Human is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
