Professor Ed Bullmore, head of Cambridge University’s Department of Psychiatry, will deliver a public lecture at the Hadyn Ellis Building to mark the Hodge Annual Meeting on Thursday 23 November 2017.

Hosted by the University’s Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute (NMHRI), registration for the public lecture will commence at 4.30pm with a wine reception followed by the public lecture with Professor Bullmore at 5.30pm-6.30pm.

Innovative thinking

An advocate of ‘innovative thinking’ when it comes to developing new treatments for depression, Professor Bullmore will discuss ‘Inflammation as a therapeutic target for depression’.

The event will bring together key figures from the new Hodge Centre for Neuropsychiatric Immunology, which was launched in 2016 with a £1m investment from the Hodge Foundation. The purpose of the centre is to unite experts in exploring how the brain’s immune system impacts brain conditions such as schizophrenia, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Professor Bullmore to Cardiff University to celebrate our first of many annual meetings of the Hodge Centre,” said Professor Jeremy Hall, Director and Research Theme Lead at NMHRI.

“Uniting experts from across the field of neuro-immunology at such events is fundamental to the progress of our pioneering research. By working together through this fantastic new Centre, we hope to better understand and subsequently develop more effective therapies for a range of debilitating conditions.”
