A new volunteer programme has been launched to find helpers to support the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships when it comes to Cardiff in 2016.

Up to 1,500 volunteers will be needed to support the global event, which will bring more 200 of the world's best athletes from 60 countries to the city on Easter Saturday, 26th March 2016.

The so-called 'Extra-Milers' will be urged to 'Make a DIFFerence' when the estimated 25,000 runners and 100,000 spectators descend on Cardiff for the mass participation half marathon which runs alongside the showpiece event.

Activities include handing out medals and goody bags, being a race steward, looking after water stations and helping to set up the start and finish areas.

Volunteers will receive a Cardiff 2016 uniform provided by Adidas after the sportswear company confirmed its partnership with the race.

Information about volunteering can be found at www.cardiff2016.co.uk and volunteers can get involved in the discussion about the event on Twitter using the hashtag #extramilers.

The University was named as title partner for the event last month.
