School of Modern Language’s alumna scoops German Teacher Award accolade

A former student was recently presented with an award which highlighted her outstanding achievements as a German teacher.
Chloe Samuels, now a teacher at Caerleon Comprehensive, was presented with a prestigious German Teacher Award by German Ambassador Dr Peter Ammon in a ceremony which took place at his residence in London on 12 June.
The awards are an annual event organised by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to recognise the achievements of German teachers in primary and secondary teachers across the UK.
Chloe’s love for German began at school where she had an inspirational teacher who taught her with enthusiasm and vivacity. Chloe was fascinated by German language, history and culture so when the time came to choose a university topic, Chloe chose BSc/Econ European Union Studies which allowed her to study German as her main subject alongside Spanish at beginner’s level. Chloe spent her year abroad in Berlin and graduated in 2005.
After completing her academic studies in 2011 Chloe joined Caerleon Comprehensive and is now the Subject Leader for German.
Speaking of her achievement Chloe said, “Bin super aufgeregt! I am thrilled to have won the award and am immensely proud that the hard work and dedication of our team of Modern Foreign Language teachers at Caerleon has been recognised: really any award bestowed on an individual teacher is an award for the whole teaching team, as without the team supporting my ideas and schemes nothing would get done!”
“With her tongue-in-cheek sense of humour and her keen interest in the subject, Chloe was an absolute pleasure to teach, and I’m not one bit surprised that she has moved on to become an inspiring teacher”, former course tutor Elke Oerter comments. “I currently have two dedicated former students of Chloe’s from Caerleon in my Year 1 cohort, who are a testimony to the difference a passionate teacher can make in enthusing learners.”
German is available at the School of Modern Languages as either a Single Honours or Joint Honours programme combined with other subjects. It can be studied as a beginners’ subject without any previous knowledge of the language or as an advanced subject for applicants with an A-level.
