Two free, online courses allowing learners from around the world to benefit from the University's teaching and research are being launched.
Muslims in Britain and Community Journalism are the first courses in Cardiff's growing portfolio of MOOCs (Massive Online Courses). First run in 2014, these courses attracted more than 15,000 learners from over 120 countries.
MOOCs offer learners the opportunity to study anywhere, anytime, for free. Learners from across the globe can experience a high-quality Cardiff University education and benefit from the wealth of expertise at the University.
Starting on the 9th February 2015, Muslims in Britain: Changes and Challenges is led by Professor Sophie Gilliat-Ray of the University's Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK. The MOOC reflects the work of the Centre and the research that they have undertaken over the last decade on the everyday lives of British Muslims.
On 16th March 2015, the Community Journalism: Digital and Social MediaMOOC will start, led by Professor Richard Sambrook of the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and the Centre for Community Journalism. This MOOC combines elements of traditional journalism with opportunities for learners to develop their digital and social media skills in order to start their own community news services (which many of the 2014 cohort went on to do).
