New review published on lanthanide ions in molecular bioimaging

Lanthanides

Drs Angelo Amoroso and Simon Pope have recently published a review entitled on the use of trivalent lanthanide ions in molecular bioimaging. The article is published in RSC's Chemical Society Reviews (IF 30.425) and is part of a themed collection on 'Imaging Agents'. Trivalent lanthanide ions offer remarkable opportunities in the design of bioimaging agents: the review presents an accessible discussion of their application in both optical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Aspects of molecular design, control over key physical properties and biological compatibility are discussed in this context, together with developments and opportunities as responsive probes and in multi-modal imaging.
