Cardiff hosts piano recital from Guangzhou, China

Performers from the Music School at South China Normal University, Guangzhou visited Cardiff this week, in association with Cardiff University School of Music, to perform a concert inspired by the Chinese characters for heart and sound.
Professor Ling-Yun Yang and Lecturer Cecilia Xiying Huang performed twelve compositions for piano by Professor Wei Yang of Shanghai Normal University, accompanied by calligraphy and art by Chinese artist Pi Ming.
The ancient and complex meanings behind Chinese characters were distilled in the compositions and colourful artworks.
Lecturer Cecilia Xiying Huang was born in China and started studying piano at age three. She gained her first degree in Piano Performance under Professor Lingyun Yang at South China Normal University, and then progressed to complete her MMus degree at the University of Hull, UK.
Cecilia has performed in numerous recital halls in South China, including the Xinghai concert hall in Guangzhou, South China Normal University and Zhaoqing University.
Professor Ling-Yun Yang is a piano professor of South China Normal University, having studied piano since childhood with her mother, piano professor Jin Enhui.
Professor Yang has performed solo concerts and collaborative recitals at the South China Normal University School of Music, Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Chime Music Hall, Zinghai Concert Hall, and Kunming Chamber Music Hall.
The performers have also visited the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, London and the University of Oxford during their visit to the UK.
