Programme scores 100% satisfaction in 2014 National Student Survey
10 September 2014
Marine Geography students at Cardiff University are the most satisfied Physical Geography and Environmental Science students in the whole of the UK according to the results of the 2014 National Student Survey (NSS). The Marine Geography course at Cardiff University has been ranked first in the UK for student satisfaction in Physical Geography and Environmental Science according to the recently published 2014 National Student Survey. For the second year running, the course has achieved a 100% satisfaction score from students, helping it to retain not only the top position amongst the Russell Group but also first place across the whole of the UK.
The degree scheme, which provides a fascinating blend of the physical and human geography of deep sea marine and coastal environments, is an extremely successful training route for employment in the marine and coastal sector. Hands-on field work, with trips to Greece, Malta and Jersey, as well as industrial summer and year-long placements, form a significant component of the course in Cardiff, with coastal and offshore survey enabling a greater understanding of the physical and biological characteristics of the marine environment.
The NSS is a well-established annual census of nearly half a million students across the UK. The survey asks undergraduates to provide feedback on key aspects of the student learning experience and their overall satisfaction with their university or college. The feedback enables universities, colleges and students' unions to improve the education and services they provide and helps prospective students to make informed decisions about where and what to study. In four of the seven categories, Marine Geography came first, coming 3rd in the other three and overall first in the UK. For "overall satisfaction" and "teaching on my course" Marine Geography gained perfect scores of 100%.
In addition to coming top in the NSS, in the latest graduate employment dataset 2012/13, Marine Geography graduates had 0% unemployment and 87.5% were employed at graduate level or were undertaking postgraduate study.
