This January we opened our doors to over 80 school pupils, keen to experience more about learning languages at University.

The study day was organised by our students who have signed up to our Student Language Ambassador teaching module. This module provides our students with the opportunity to gain experience as language teachers, going into local secondary schools to teach pupils modern languages. Our students gain mentored teaching experience, generate their own learning materials and take part in classroom activities.

Pupils from local schools Bryn Hafren, Caldicot Comprehensive, Bishop of Llandaff and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf visited on 6 January and took part in taster sessions and a range of activities aimed at introducing them to languages that they might not have thought of learning before.

Student Jane Bird, who is studying Spanish and Italian said after the day, "The SLA teaching module has given me a great insight into teaching and it was fantastic to see everyone engaging with new languages on the study day!"
