The work of a Cardiff academic over the course of his career has been recognised by the leading authority on the academic field of management in the UK.

Professor Mike Reed, Emeritus Professor of Organisational Analysis in Cardiff Business School, has been awarded the Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award by the British Academy of Management (BAM).

The Award is presented at every BAM Annual Conference and is designed to reward the course of a career within the Business and Management field. Professor Reed was nominated for the award for his outstanding scholarly contribution to the field of management, his significant contribution to BAM and the wider Business and Management Community.

Speaking about the award, Professor Reed said: “I'm very honoured to have received the Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award from BAM - particularly as the latter is in the name of somebody who played such a pivotal, academic and institution-building, role at Cardiff.”

Dean and Head of Cardiff Business School, Professor Martin Kitchener, added: “I would like to congratulate Mike on receiving this award, it is a tremendous honour and a rightful recognition of his considerable achievements in business and management research.

“Richard Whipp is remembered fondly in Cardiff, within the School and the wider University, and we consider his wife Anne a great friend.”

The Richard Whipp Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honour of the late Professor Richard Whipp. Professor Whipp was, as well as a former Chair of BAM, a Cardiff Business School Professor of Human Resource Management and a Cardiff University Pro Vice-Chancellor, responsible for a number of innovations and developments at School and University level.

Cardiff Business School awards the Richard Whipp Scholarship annually to a public sector manager participating in the Executive MBA programme.
